Battery

Battery pack is one of the basic requirements of a portable computer. All notebooks, netbooks, Eee PC’s and all other forms of portable computers have got a battery pack. The number of cells in the battery and their ability to power the machine are two basic milestones to describe a computer’s technical specifications.

Unlike desktop computers, portable instruments need a secondary source of power supply. To feed the laptop when not in direct power supply, the battery pack is used with every notebook. The battery pack is an advanced technology which works on mostly Li-ion exchange process. The Li-ion batteries can be recharged by supplying primary energy- power supply through mains. The time for which the battery can power the portable computer is one of the main features describing the notebook. Generally, this time ranges from 4 hours to 6 hours in case of a notebook computer and even higher for a netbook computer. The highest ever recorded till now is 10.5 hours of backup for a netbook.

The battery packs are portable- can be carried along with notebooks while travelling. So, businessmen and other professionals prefer to carry a spare battery pack for availing undisturbed use of notebook. Notebooks are comparatively higher performing portables and can process heavy applications easily. In case of netbooks, it is designed purely with portability in mind. Thus, netbooks give a lot better battery performance, consuming fewer resources. The charger can charge the battery and run the machine simultaneously. The charger adds approximately 400 grams to the transport weight, but could prove useful.
