Dongle

Dongle is popularly known in the computer industry is nothing but refers to a small hardware device that connects to a computer. Dongle was first invented and named by Graham Heggie in the UK. Dongle performs as a validation solution for a particular portion of software. So the dongle rightly said as the software protection will allow the software to run properly; when it is not, the program will run in a limited mode or reject to start. Usually dongles are used by some proprietary hawkers as a mode of copy prevention or digital rights management.

Dongle also plays an important role in terms of using internet where they can be used on mobile phone or on laptop via a dongle while you are overseas. So in such circumstances foreign data roaming charges are expensive, and browsing the internet or checking email can leave one with a hefty bill. Dongle allow people the potential to have much faster broadband, replacing their phone lines as VoIP technology which persists to grow in popularity. In the present days the modern dongles come packed with the similar features of smart cards, so the dongle market is making good profits when compared to smart cards.

Broadband dongles are becoming more popular, particularly the pre pay dongles as the user can pay rather than being tied into a 12, 18 or 24 month contract.

However the modern dongle technology usually makes use of a computer’s (USB) port, plugging in just like a portable flash drive or other small USB device.
