Batteries which make use of Lithium for producing energy are called Lithium Batteries. These batteries can provide power ranging from 1.5 V to about 3.7 V, based on the kind of chemical compounds used in them and their design.
The main reason why Lithium Batteries are popularly used in electronic devices is because they are able to provide a high level of energy, but they can come in small sizes. Lithium as such is the lightest of metals, which make it the ideal choice for batteries that need to be used in portable devices. When recharging, lithium batteries make use of ions rather than the Lithium metals, which makes them a more stable kind of battery for recharging purposes. During recharging, it does not show the memory effect problem, which is seen in nickel cadmium batteries.
Lithium Batteries are commonly used in electronic equipment such as laptops, netbooks, PDA’s notebooks, calculators and so on. This is because these batteries offer the kind of energy power needed by these devices. They last longer than alkaline batteries and they are available in small shapes and sizes which is the typical requirement for battery source in small, portable gadgets.
Another benefit for user is that they can last for a long time, which is ideal as users do not have to frequently spend money to replace worn out batteries frequently for their portable electronic devices.
