A nickel-metal hydride cell or NiMH batteries are a type of secondary electrochemical cell similar to a nickel hydrogen cell. These batteries are similar to nickel cadmium batteries but the only difference is that instead of cadmium hydrogen is used as an active element. The voltage of this cell is 1.2 volts. These nickel metal hydride batteries are high on energy density. These batteries are available in both rechargeable form and non rechargeable ones. In this kind of a battery hydrogen is used as an alternative source.
These batteries are very common in usage for everyday devices. They are used mainly low cost consumer appliances such as electric razors, toothbrushes, cameras, camcorders, mobile phones, pagers, automotive batteries and medical instruments and equipments. These nickel metal hydride batteries are used for automobiles as well. Many new cars have a battery that run on nickel metal hydride batteries. These batteries are environmental friendly too as the chemical composition of this battery is hydrogen based. They should not be exposed to heat or moisture and should be kept in a dry place.
The problem with nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries is that if they are over charged then the batteries might deteriorate. These batteries must be charged with a timer so that we can prevent over charging them. The use of NiMH battery is widely appreciated for its application in rechargeable batteries for consumer electronics. NiMH batteries are definitely a great device to keep all our goods charged up always.
