While these puzzles demand high concentration and use of common sense, the genre is not so popular with mainstream consoles such as Sony PS3, Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360. One of the reasons for this could be the fact that puzzle games do not emphasize on graphics and gameplay like other genres including first-person shooter and role-playing games.
But, certain games such as Nancy Drew and World of Goo have succeeded in changing that situation to some extent. Dinner Dash and Mahajong are the two best puzzle games ever for any console. An Xbox 360 version of Dinner Dash is coming out sometime in Q3 of 2009.
Best puzzle games for Xbox 360 platform include Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warloards and Exit. Both these games were released in October 2007. But, unfortunately no game released in 2009 has been able to make a strong impact on the console’s market. Recent puzzle games for Xbox 360 include Ghastly Ghould and Shopping Crazy.
On the other side, PS3 platform has not had any significant success with puzzles. Ecochrome and Lumines Supernova are considered as most popular puzzle games for PS3 console ever. The 2008 games are closely followed by Trash Panic which involves interesting puzzles. But overall speaking, no console game can match the quality gameplay provided by old greats such as Bejeweled, Dinner Dash, Tetrisphere and WarioWare.
