Types of digital camera lens

Digital camera lens are used in digital cameras which are capable of taking high resolution images. There are different types of digital camera lens. Some of the digital camera lens types are fixed focal length lens, optical zoom lens, digital zoom lens, interchangeable converter lens etc. The fixed focal length lens in a camera does not change at all.

With a fixed focal lens the only way you can get a close up is to move closer to the object that needs to be photographed. But as you get closer to the subject, the image may get distorted and may be out of focus. Optical Zoom lenses are one among the types of digital camera lens which gives a true zoom. Its focal length changes and the zoom mechanism itself extend and retract so an image is magnified by the lens itself.

An optical zoom produces the best quality images. Digital zoom lens is not a true zoom, however. It is a simulated zoom that enlarges the central portion of an image in the camera. The actual length of the lens does not change. Digital zoom produce images with reduced visual quality. Interchangeable and converter lenses are nothing but Single Lens Reflex digital cameras. They accept a wide range of interchangeable lenses.

The auto focus feature may essentially not work in this interchangeable type. Add-on convertor lenses are available for many digital cameras. Converter lenses are relatively inexpensive amongst the digital camera lenses.
