Product Description

Putting the 'micro' in Micro Robotic Creatures

How small can you go? Using common locomotion principles (see "How it Works," below) we set out to make a really small HEXBUG that gave the appearance of being smart. How will it react when it encounters an obstacle? What happens if it gets turned over? The first prototypes of the Nano were inspired by the old vibrating football games. More recent examples of vibrating motion are the BEAM Vibrobots, and then the Bristlebots. Thirty some iterations, a few years, and dozens of designs later the Nano was born. To give just a taste of how much development went into this product, HexBug engineered and rapid prototyped over 150 variations of legs alone.

How it works. The motor inside the Nano rotates a counterweight that causes forces up and down. The down force causes the legs to bend and the Nano moves forward. The up force causes the creature to hop lifting the front legs off the ground and allowing the legs to unbend. This up and down movement repeats several hundred times per second causing the Nano to move forward. The Nano creature's ability to flip over by itself is due to the rotating forces caused by the motor and the unique internal and external chassis design (and a little magic).

I ordered two for my grandchildren - 7 & 5 - and they were an immediate hit. Although essentially of no practical use, the bugs work well and have provided the children with hours of amusement. Recommended - probably for cats too.

Excellent fun toy, everyone really enjoys playing with them

I ordered these bugs as stocking fillers for my five grand children. I thought that the price was really reasonable plus no delivery charge. When the five bugs arrived (in two deliveries) I was disappointed to find out of the many variations I recieved 4 identical bugs. I thought of not giving them to my grandchildren but was talked into it by my daughters. I am glad I listened to them as the kids loved the wee beasts. I was so impressed with the little things that I bought a couple of starter kits for them. So although Iam disappointed in the colours dispatched, the main thing is the kids are happy.

TH Hexbug Nano is a great little gadget which dodges around just like a manic insect. Children of all ages love it!

Hexbugs Nano are a fantastic stocking filler. They realistically behave like a little bug, scuttling all over the place and flipping over when they end up on their backs. My daughter was delighted to watch the little bug as it ran around in a box. If you get more than one they seem to chace each other.

great little bug and great fun for my son ,now he wants all the colours .will be great for stocking fillers with christmas getting closer now.

Chosen by my 8 year old to use up some birthday money. The hexbug has been played with for weeks now, with no sign of the battery losing power. The favourite game is to build mazes out of Lego for it, but has also had a lot of time running around / off the kitchen table. Really robust little toy that has survived a lot of knocks. Super price and very fast delivery from memorybits to boot! What's not to like?
